Lecture: Rafique Wassan - Progressive-Pluralist Cultural Production of Sufi Heritage in Sindh, Pakistan

An initiative of the Platform Cultural Heritage Cultural Production

Sufi tradition contains the creative artistic expressive dimension of Islam. Centrally premised on the theosophy of the "Oneness of Existence", the intellectual knowledge tradition of Sufism tends to transcend the rigid religious boundaries and inaugurates the universal and inclusive vision of humankind and the cosmos. Informed by critical heritage and progressive Islam framework, this talk brings out the progressive-pluralist cultural production and politics of Sufi heritage in the Sindh region in Pakistan. It primarily discusses the Sufi freethinking inspired performance practice enacted by the socially progressive actors – the artists and intellectuals.
